Finding 1,000-year-old Human Remains

KYK9 has been helping archaeologists ensure that a proposed road expansion in Ohio would not inadvertently disturb Native American burial grounds.

The archaeologists had cleared the area using ground penetrating radar and other tools, finding no human remains. Tribal leaders then asked for KYK9’s help, and it is lucky they did.

K9 Pocket, over multiple visits to the site, located 11 burials, each 1,000-years-old. We are aware of no other dog that has found such ancient remains in the United States; and we presented a paper educating engineers in Ohio about K9 Pocket’s success. It has been a profoundly spiritual experience, watching K9 Pocket find sacred burial ground and then communicate and showing us exactly where the bodies are buried.
